Business Buzz: The Memorial Hospital seeking new space in Craig

Craig Daily Press Staff Report

The Memorial Hospital is back on the hunt for a new site for its rehabilitation center after determining that relocating to the old JC Penney building at 473 Yampa Ave. is not financially feasible.

It has been nearly a year since TMH first began making plans to move the rehab center into the space on Yampa Avenue from its current location inside Centennial Mall on Victory Way. Initially, TMH Chief of Marketing and Business Development Jennifer Riley was excited about the downtown location, however the changes required to meet building codes would be too expensive, she said.

"We looked at a lot of different ways to make those changes but we just couldn't make it work financially," Riley said.

A lack of nearby parking was also a problem. The Yampa Avenue space remains in TMH's hands through the end of the year, per the terms of the lease.

TMH's physical therapy program has grown nearly 27 percent in the past year, according to Riley. The hospital hopes to find a bigger location soon. In the meantime, the rehab center has expanded patient hours to accommodate growing patient needs.

The restaurant, which has moved into the old location of Stacks Smokehouse and recently hosted its soft opening, offers a family friendly environment and fresh food close to fast food prices, Cook said.

As the name implies, Tamale Town specializes in tamales. In addition to traditional pork tamales and classics like chicken and green chile, Cook has cooked up some impressive variations of the Mesoamerican dish, ranging from pineapple and sweet corn to chicken poblano feta.

Tamale Town, 351 Ranney St., is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day.
