Bullpups lose close one in overtime

The eighth grade B team Bullpups battled it out against Steamboat but came up short with a 27-26 overtime loss.
“I’m proud of their effort” Coach Burk Wynkoop said. “Any team that goes into overtime is playing pretty well.”
The Bullpups were trailing 19-12 with three minutes left in regulation time. The team swiftly turned the game around on two quick baskets pulling within three points of the Sailors. The defense bucketed down and forced a few turnovers, which gave the pups the ball and time to catch up.
Justin Matthews hit a jumper with 2:00 remaining, which brought the pups within one point of their competitors.
Rader hit a jumper from the free throw line that tied the score at 20 all.
The Bullpups took the lead, 22-20, on Mike Higgins 15 foot shot with 22 seconds remaining in regulation time.

“They (team) woke up in the second half and started scoring,” Wynkoop said.
Steamboat hit two free throws with four ticks left on the clock to tie the game 22-22. The pups missed a jumper at the buzzer that forced the game into overtime.
Kyle Rader, who played well in regulation time, broke the overtime 22-22 tie with a six foot shot at the 1:31 mark on the clock pups led 24-22.
The Sailors made one of two free throws and trailed Moffat County 24-23 with 1:01 remaining. After a missed Bullpup procession, the Sailors took the lead 25-24 with a short jumper, leaving 30 seconds remaining in overtime.
With twenty ticks left on the clock, Rader found himself at the charity stripe, under pressure and camera flashes, he landed two free throws to give the pups a 26-25 lead and the apparent win.
The Sailors were not satisfied and were determined not to lose another close one to the Bullpups. Steamboat took the lead for the final time at the 11 second mark, on a three-foot shot under the basket.
The B team lost 27-26 in a seesaw-scoring overtime game that could have gone either way.
The last time these two teams clashed was in Steamboat, when Dustin White sank a free throw with no time remaining on the clock the Bullpups beat the Sailors in that game 23-22.
