Bullpups continue undefeated season

The seventh-grade Bullpups “A” team is looking perfect this season with a 6-0 record. The ‘Pups’ goal is to win the district trophy in December.

“They are a great bunch of boys to work with,” Assistant Coach Lori Dodge said. “The boys are easy to coach and they have talent.”

The Bullpups are loaded with talent. Players Tim Knez and Kevin Loughran stand at 6’1″ and 6’0″ respectively. Knez and Loughran dominate the post and the boards. The team also has a deep bench and solid players like Derek Duran, Justin Kawcak, Cass Thompson and Reid Hanamen who compliment the team, Dodge said.

“The team works together well,” she said. “And they practice and play hard.”

The Pups have a solid defense, Dodge said. “The boys play a man-to-man defense. They will play zone, but very little. If a defense can stop an offense the team is ahead,” she added.

The Pups’ offense is steady and averages 40 points a game.

The team takes advantage of its offensive weapons, which can score points from the inside and the outside.

“We have big guys underneath who can score and outside shooting guards, who can score as well,” Dodge said. “We are a tough team to defend.”

When the Bullpups are not winning on the court, they are practicing in the Craig Middle School gym.

During practice, the team sticks to the fundamentals running the floor, boxing out, post moves and shooting, Dodge said.

During scrimmages they practice breaking the press, inbound passing, traps, and pressing, she added.

Though undefeated, there is always room for improvement. According to their coach, the boys need to work on decision making while running the floor, rebounding and boxing out.

“The boys have a great attitude” Dodge said.

The Bullpups take on Soroco at 4 p.m. Nov. 30 in the Craig Middle School gym.
