Bryce Jacobson: Holiday well wishes to all, even the local economy
December 21, 2009
I want to wish each and every one of you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year from Peyton, Bayley, Jamey and myself. I hope that your holiday season is filled with good times with family and friends.
I also want to remind you that many churches will be hosting Christmas Eve services, so please check the Craig Daily Press for a listing of times and locations for those this week.
Comments make sense
In a story regarding the impending workforce reduction at a local mine — published in Tuesday's edition of the Daily Press — I was impressed by Moffat County Commissioner Tom Gray's comments. He said, "I think it emphasizes we are, the nation is, in the most dynamic situation that I can remember, as far as unknowns."
Gray and I historically disagree on how economic development should be implemented, but I notice that he and I agree here. I have encouraged that he and his colleagues at the county get involved in economic development since my arrival here in Craig — when the economy was in fairly good shape and we had the money.
I don't know exactly how that should look now that money is a little hard to come by, but I do agree with Gray when he said, "We can't make assumptions that the great employers we've had in the county are going to be there forever. Things aren't as stable, and we can't make assumptions."
We all have an opportunity to make a difference in our community, whether that be the subdivision we live in, the school our kids attend or the city or county that we call home; and there is not a better time than the present.

It is a luxury liquidations store offering stained glass lamps, quilts, décor and more than 700 bedding sets, among other items, all of which are marked down 75 to 90 percent. According to owner and co-operator Joanne Lighthizer, who runs the business with her husband, "all items are very high-end products."
The hours of operation are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Sundays. Stop by their location in the mall, or give them a call at 326-8938 to find something for that special someone in your life.
