Briefs for May 16, 2011: EDP to host power line informational meeting

The Craig/Moffat Economic Development Partnership will host Power Lines & The Economy from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. today in the second floor conference room at the Moffat County Courthouse, 221 W. Victory Way.
The informational session will include information about the two proposed high-voltage power transmission lines and their economic and electrical system benefits and impacts.
The meeting will include Kara Choquette, director of communications for TransWest Express; Garry Miller, director of land and environmental affairs for TransWest; and Rod Fisher, community relations employee for Rocky Mountain Power/PacifiCorp.
The meeting is free and is open to the public.

Cash prizes offered in Quality of Life Project
The Craig/Moffat Economic Development Partnership, Moffat County Tourism Association, Craig Chamber of Commerce and the Craig Daily Press are offering cash prizes for the best entries in the Moffat County Quality of Life Project.

The project seeks community members to submit written explanations, of no more than 500 words, or visual representations of why they love living in Moffat County.
All entries may be used for future promotions of Moffat County.
Entries will be judged by a panel of longtime Moffat County residents. The first-place artwork and written work will each win $250. Second place overall wins $100 and third place overall wins $50. In addition, for entrants age 12 and younger, first place wins a $100 savings bond, second wins a $75 savings bond and third wins a $50 savings bond.
Submit entries online or by mailing a completed form with submissions to Craig Daily Press, Attn: Quality of Life Project, P.O. Box 5, Craig, CO 81626. Entry forms are available at the Craig Daily Press, Maybell Store and Dinosaur Town Hall.
Entries are due by June 1.

McDonald's offering reading program
McDonald's mascot Ronald McDonald present the school show "Read to Achieve" at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Craig McDonald's restaurant, 1080 W. Victory Way.
The show includes a magic act, information on how children can access library resources and presentations on famous people who had their lives enhanced by reading.
