Briefs for March 30, 2011: Today deadline to register for Craig youth baseball summer leagues

Today is the last day to register for Craig youth baseball through Craig Parks and Recreation.

There are three age groups — 8 to 10, 11 and 12, and 13 to 15 year olds.

Youths 8 to 12 will travel to Hayden, Meeker and Rangely at least once during the season. Youths 13 to 15 will to travel to Hayden, Meeker, Rangely, Rifle and Rawlins, Wyo., at lease once during the season.

Parents are responsible for travel arrangements.

Practices begin May 2, weather permitting, and games begin May 23.

Registration is $40 for all age groups.

If late registration is accepted, a $10 late fee will be charged.

T-ball, coach pitch and girls softball registration ends today

Today is the final day to sign up for Craig Parks and Recreation's T-ball, coach pitch and girls slow-pitch softball.

T-ball is co-ed for children 5 or 6 years old in preschool and kindergarten. Players must be 5 by Aug. 31 to register.

Coach pitch will also be co-ed for youths 7 and 8 in first and second grade.

Girls slow-pitch softball is for girls 8 to 18. The girls will be divided into two separate age divisions.

The cost of registration for all age groups is $30.

The season starts May 2 and ends June 23.

Hens and Chicks to discuss garden tools Friday

The Yampa Valley Hens and Chicks, the local chapter of the Farmgirl Sisterhood, will meet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church, 678 School St.

One of the speakers will be Lorrae Moon, teaching attendees how to get garden tools ready for spring.

Craig Variety Show set for Friday night

The Craig Variety Show is scheduled for 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4265, 419 E. Victory Way.

The events take place on the first Friday of every month.

Shows include food, drinks, and performances by singer/songwriters, poets and storytellers. On Friday night, there will be special April Fools' Day performances by John Prine, Iris Dement, Jeff Beck and BB King.
