The Moffat County Commission will host its regular monthly meeting at 8:30 a.m. today at the Moffat County Courthouse, 221 W. Victory Way.

The meeting is open to the public, and the agenda is below:

• 8:30 to 8:35 a.m. Call to order, Pledge of Allegiance, moment of silence



• 8:40 to 8:45 a.m. Consent agenda

— Review and sign the following documents: Road maintenance permit for South Green River Road.



• 8:45 to 9 a.m. General discussion

— Note that the board may discuss any topic relevant to county business whether or not the topic has been specifically noted on the agenda. During this time, the commission will conduct a safety meeting.

• 9 to 9:15 a.m. Discussion with Judy Whilden, Moffat County Early Childhood Coalition

— Present proclamation for Month of the Young Child

• 9:15 to 9:30 a.m. Discussion with Lynette Running, of human resources

— Present personnel requisitions for approval

— Discuss vouchers for 9 Health Fair

• 9:30 to 9:45 a.m. Discussion with Lila Herod and Debbie Winder, of the clerk and recorder’s office

— Request waiving bid process for binding of real estate books

• 9:45 to 10 a.m. Discussion with Steve Powell, of DuBois Telephone

— Discuss installation fees for underground telephone cables

• 10 to 10:45 a.m. Discussion with Kate Nowak, of Yampa Valley Partners

— Present regional energy education plan

• 10:45 to 11 a.m. Discussion with Jeff Comstock, of the natural resources department

— Present March 2011 mineral lease sale for approval

— Present permission letter for soil sampling on county parcel of land for signature

• 11 to 11:15 a.m. Discussion with Dave Fleming, of the Moffat County High School rodeo team

— Discuss the possibility of extending the contract for hosting state high school rodeo championships at Moffat County Fairgrounds

• 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. Discussion with Moffat County Attorney Jeremy Snow

— Possible executive session to be requested to conference with attorney for the purpose of receiving legal advice on specific questions and determining positions relative to matters that may be subject to negotiations, developing strategy for negotiations and instructing negotiators.

The agenda is subject to change until 24 hours before scheduled hearings. The board may alter the times of the meetings throughout the day or cancel or reschedule noticed meetings.

Young Patriot Essay Contest open to Moffat County students

The Bears Ears Tea Party Patriots are offering an essay contest for all Moffat County students in the ninth through 12th grades. Cash prizes will be awarded for first ($100), second ($75) and third ($25) places.

The Moffat County Young Patriot Essay Contest calls on students to write 400 to 500 words answering the question, what does it mean to be an American?

Entries must be received no later than April 11 and can be mailed to the organization at P.O. Box 1500, Craig, CO, 81626.

Entries must be original work and contestants may enter only once. All work must be typed and include the contestant’s name, address, e-mail address and telephone number.

Craig City Council meeting today at city hall

The Craig City Council is hosting its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. today at Craig City Hall, 300 W. Fourth St.

The meeting is open to the public, and the agenda is listed below:

• Roll call

• Pledge of Allegiance and moment of silence

• Approve March 8 meeting minutes

• Approve agenda

• Consent agenda:

— Approve renewal of a hotel and restaurant liquor license for the Galaxy Restaurant at 524 Yampa Ave. No cause shown for denial.

— Approval of renewal of a tavern liquor license for the Popular Bar at 24 W. Victory Way. No cause shown for denial.

• Audiences:

— Proclamation to designate April as Month of the Young Child

— Request from Dave Fleming to provide city funding support for a bid to host the state high school finals rodeo in Craig in 2012 and 2013 in the amount of $2,500 per year

• Other business:

— Award bid for pickups and beds for various city departments

• Staff reports:

— Bruce Nelson, finance director, will present the month end financial report for February

— Mark Sollenberger, water/wastewater director, will present the month end reports for January and February

Craig Daily Press seeking new Editorial Board members

The Craig Daily Press is seeking three to four people to participate on its next Editorial Board, which begins April 4.

Editorial Board members meet from noon to 1 p.m. Mondays to discuss the newspaper’s opinion pieces for that week’s Wednesday and Saturday editions.

Editorial Board terms last three months.

VNA hosting drop-in clinic Thursday

The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association will host a drop-in immunization clinic for adolescents to get their Tdap and Meningococcal vaccinations from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Craig Middle School during parent-teacher conferences.

Parents must be present and need to bring their child’s immunization records.

Reunion for 1980s MCHS classes taking shape for this summer

Plans are underway for a 1980s reunion for Moffat County High School graduates. Members of classes 1980 through 1989 are invited to attend.

The event is scheduled for the weekend of July 15. However, specific events and details are yet to be determined.

Next Preserving the Last Frontier meeting set for Saturday

The Preserving the Last Frontier organization will host its monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. March 26 in the second-floor library at Sunset Meadows I, 633 Ledford St. The program will either be the Dickinson/Sparks family history, or the history of Mills Craig.
