Free Social Security assistance will be offered today.

Benefits planner David Nelson will present Social Security Benefits Basics from 1:15 to 3 p.m. today and host private appointments throughout the day at the Independent Life Center, 483 Yampa Ave.

USDA to distribute food this week

The United States Department of Agriculture has scheduled food supplement distributions for later this week.

Food will be distributed from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Maybell Community Center and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Moffat County office in Dinosaur.

Mud Splash scheduled for Saturday

The Craig Chamber of Commerce hosts Mud Splash volleyball from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Loudy-Simpson Park.

The double-elimination tournament costs $200 per team, which includes six commemorative T-shirts. The tournament is limited to 16 teams.

CNCC hosts trip to San Antonio

Colorado Northwestern Community College's Craig campus is hosting a community trip to San Antonio from Oct. 6 to 10.

The trip includes visits to the Alamo, Fredericksburg, Austin, LBJ Ranch, Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum and Luckenbach.

The trip costs $1,600, and a $400 deposit is due now. The cost includes airfare, transportation, lodging, eight meals and attractions admissions.

CNCC to celebrate ribbon cutting Aug. 8

Colorado Northwestern Community College has set its grand opening celebration for its new Craig campus for next month.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for noon Aug. 8 at the new campus, 2801 W. Ninth St. Campus tours will follow from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Refreshments will be served, and the public is invited to attend.

Annual Ducky Race set for Sept. 10

The Craig Lions Club's fourth annual Ducky Race has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Sept. 10 on the Yampa River.

The race is a fundraiser for the Lions Club's eyeglasses program.

Up to 500 ducks, representing four branches of the armed forces, are now being sold for $10 each. On race day, the ducks will be set on the river from the bridge on Ranney St. Three prizes are offered — $750, $500 and $250 — for the first three ducks to cross the finish at the canoe launch in Loudy-Simpson Park.

Ducks can be purchased from any Lions Club member or by calling (970) 640-5194.
