Briefs for Aug. 24, 2011: CNCC community barbecue today

Colorado Northwestern Community College is hosting a community appreciation barbecue from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the new Craig campus.

The barbecue will take place in the common area between the school's new academic and career technical buildings. The event is open to the public, and residents are encouraged to join CNCC staff, faculty and students to celebrate the beginning of fall semester classes.

MCTA workshop slated for today

The Moffat County Tourism Association Board is meeting in a workshop at 10 a.m. today at the Moffat County Courthouse, 221 W. Victory Way, to discuss the 2012 budget. The meeting is open to the public.

School open houses scheduled this week

Three schools in the Moffat County School District are hosting open house events this week.

An open house for new students will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Moffat County High School, 900 Finley Lane. Call the school at 824-7036.

Craig Middle School, 915 Yampa Ave., is hosting its annual Back-to-School Night from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Call the school at 824-3289.

Special commission meeting today

The Moffat County Commission is having a special meeting at 1 p.m. today at the Moffat County Courthouse, 221 W. Victory Way. The agenda includes a discussion with Linda DeRose, of the road and bridge department, regarding a resolution for temporary closure of Ninth Street for asphalt overlay.

Chamber mixer set for Thursday

The next Craig Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors' Business After-Hours Mixer is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at State Farm Insurance, 690 W. Victory Way.

The event is free, open to the public and includes children's games.
