The eighth annual Big Blue Football Camp will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. May 8 and 9 at the Moffat County High School practice field, 900 Finley Lane.

The camp is available to players in kindergarten through fifth grade who want to learn more about the basics of the game.

Registration for the camp is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. May 7 at the MCHS football field. The cost is $20 to participate and receive a Bulldogs backpack.

Funds go toward supporting the MCHS football program.

Focuses include offensive skills like throwing, catching and blocking, as well as defensive skills like coverage and tackling.

“It’s not a contact camp, so they’ll be using the tackling bags to get them used to the sleds they’ll use later,” organizer and MCHS football coach Kip Hafey said. “We also really try to emphasize sportsmanship.”

Participants will also work on special teams tasks like kickoffs and punts.

Hafey said everyone who attends who will get a well-rounded experience.

“Everybody gets to try everything, there’s no designation, like, ‘You’re a lineman’ or ‘You’re a receiver,’” he said. “The second day we’ll be playing some games so they can use all the skills they learned.”

Hafey will be joined by fellow coaches.

“The players love it, and it’s just a good time for everybody involved,” he said.
