The Citizens Academic Scholarship was established in January 2009. The scholarship is a great way for the community to give back to our young adults who are seeking higher education to better themselves and land a job that will support them the rest of their lives.
The scholarship has certain requirements that need to be met in order for applicants to qualify.
Scholarship applicants will have graduated from Moffat County High School within the last three years; reside in one of the four counties in our local region; be a U.S. citizen; and be in good standing within the community.
We were very pleased with the response from the 500-word essay portion of the application. The theme of the essay question seeks an understanding from the applicants of the many challenges facing our nation, region and state. Applicants were asked to reflect on a topical issue and provide a written opinion about how they would make a positive impact or contribute to a successful outcome.
Our goal is to provide qualifying applicants a scholarship to Colorado Northwestern Community College in Craig this fall.
The committee has granted five scholarships in the last two years ranging from $500 to $1,000. We support higher education and applaud those seeking to better themselves by attending college in pursuit of a degree, which will help their chances of getting a good paying job that will lead to a lifetime career.
We would also like to express our gratitude to others who have helped fund this scholarship, Joe Petrone, Kenny Wohl and Chris Nichols.
If you would like to donate, call either Bryce at 875-1788 or Ray at 824-4994.
