Beauty Tip: How to avoid dandruff
November 27, 2015
Dandruff can be incredibly uncomfortable, let alone embarrassing. So how does dandruff occur, and what are the best remedies?
According to the Mayo Clinic, dry skin is the most common cause of dandruff, but not shampooing your hair enough can also cause buildup, resulting in those white flakes of dry skin.
So how do you treat dandruff? The Mayo Clinic sites various treatments and drugs to help keep dandruff at bay.
Washing your hair regularly is one way to combat dandruff, but a number of shampoos also help. Buy shampoos with one or several of the following ingredients: pyrithione, tar based ingredients, selenium sulfide, ketoconazole and/or salicylic acid.
"If you’ve shampooed faithfully for several weeks and there’s still a dusting of dandruff on your shoulders, talk to your doctor or dermatologist. You may need a prescription-strength shampoo or treatment with a steroid lotion," according to the Mayo Clinic's website.
