Baseball to play 2 vs. Delta Saturday

Craig Daily Press Staff Report

As long as the snow melts fast enough, the Moffat County High School boys varsity baseball team will play ball this weekend.

The MCHS boys varsity baseball team is scheduled to get back to league play at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday when they play the Delta Panthers at Craig Middle School, 915 Yampa Ave.

MCHS was originally slated to have its home opener Tuesday against Uintah (Utah) High School, but snow forced the cancellation.

The team has not played a game since the March 12 and 13 Montrose Tournament, when they defeated Alamosa and Berthoud.

The Bulldogs (3-2 overall, 1-1 in the Western Slope League) have not played a league game since splitting the season opener March 6 against Rifle.

Delta (6-2 overall, 4-0 in the WSL) has been able to climb to the top of the rankings by way of the bat.

In its eight games, Delta has scored 118 runs, or 14.75 per game, while allowing 44 (5.5 per game).

In four games against league opponents, Delta has scored 92 runs while defeating Steamboat Springs and Battle Mountain.

MCHS will try to counter the Panthers' offensive punch with a one-two pitching duo of Ben Williams and Nathan Hill.

Williams was sharp earlier in the season in a loss to Emery (Utah) High School, but fell victim to defensive miscues.

Hill started the season opener and won the team's game against Berthoud.

Steamboat to play Palisade in Craig

The Steamboat Springs High School boys varsity baseball team will play Palisade at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at Woodbury-Sports Complex, 350 S. Mack Lane, in Craig.

Palisade and Steamboat Springs are scheduled to play MCHS next week.

The Sailors (2-8 overall, 1-4 in the WSL) will return for a 4 p.m. game Tuesday to face Moffat County. Palisade (6-2 overall, 4-1 in the WSL) will play at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. April 17 against MCHS.
