Annual Love INC fundraiser to aid group’s charitable efforts

Love INC board president John Furman, right, gathers food for Patricia Vaughn and her friend’s daughter, Jordyn Mannon, 2, during Sunday’s fourth annual pig roast and silent auction fundraiser at the Boys & Girls Club of Craig. Love INC will use funds raised Sunday for general operating costs.

Pat Jones, executive director of Love In the Name of Christ of the Yampa Valley, said she empathizes with the people her organization serves.

"I know what it's like to be poor," Jones said of her upbringing in southeastern Ohio.

"My dad didn't always have good employment, so sometimes our electricity would get shut off. I can remember sleeping in my coat because there was frost around the outlets in my bedroom."

Today, Jones helps lead a local chapter of Love INC, which is "a movement of Christian churches working together to show God's love to the poor and needy."

On Sunday, the group hosted its fourth annual pig roast and silent auction at the Boys & Girls Club of Craig.

Jones said she won't know until later this week how much money the event raised, but she estimated it to be between $4,000 and $5,000.

Love INC of the Yampa Valley serves as a central organization to coordinate charitable outreach efforts among 16 Craig-area churches.

Funds raised Sunday, Jones said, are for "general operating expenses to keep the resource center open so people can call and get access to all the services the churches provide."

Craig resident Jessie Cramer said she and her husband have been to each of Love INC's annual fundraisers.

"We come every year," Cramer said. "We support Love INC a lot. They're awesome. We really love what they do here in Craig."

Anna Adams, a social caseworker for the Moffat County Department of Social Services, said she utilizes Love INC for her clients.

"We use them all the time," Adams said. "I don't know what we'd do without them."

Jones said her involvement in Love INC is the result of divine providence, and the financial hardship she experienced was part of that plan.

"God puts you in positions that you might not want to be in because someday He'll have something that he wants you to do," she said.

"Here it is. This is what I'm supposed to do."
