34-year-old man drowns Wednesday near Rangely
A 34-year-old man drowned near Rangely Wednesday evening while swimming with friends at Kenney Reservoir, according to a press release from the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office.
The man, who has not yet been identified, reportedly slid into the water off the cliffs and did not resurface, according to a witness. Friends attempted to rescue him but were unable to find him, the release said.
A Rio Blanco County Deputy was flagged down at about 5 p.m. near the dam at Kenney Reservoir, about five minutes after the man disappeared underwater.
The Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, Rangely Fire, Rangely Ambulance and Rangely Police Department responded to the scene.
Divers recovered the man’s body about 30 feet underwater about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday.
