Paul James: Ditch Good Ol’ Boys and vote Ponikvar

The Craig Mafia. The Good Ol’ Boys Club. Whatever you want to call it, wherever you want to point the finger, the fact of the matter is that for decades now, change in Craig has been almost unattainable. Certain individuals who have cycled through our local government have always prevented our community from growing, whether it be through not allowing a brewery, various restaurant chains, or my favorite topic, recreational cannabis stores. On the ballot we have two people running for city council that have already spent more than enough time dictating the fate of our small town, Dave DeRose and Chris Nichols. Locally speaking, these are two of the most establishment, status quo candidates you can have, and as I read many of the letters here I can see that it is mainly the local establishment that supports them. People who have only their own interests in mind, people who are unwilling to listen to people with different opinions, and Joe Bird seems to have the support of a majority of the Good Ol’ Boys Club as well.

Not only is John Ponikvar a kind and caring person, but he will listen to the citizens, even if he opposes what they believe, because in his mind he works for the people of Craig, and I have seen this first hand. This is why I will be voting John Ponikvar for mayor, and if you value freedom, the right to vote on matters that concern you, and having your voice heard, I urge you to ditch the Good Ol’ Boys Club and vote for Mr. Ponikvar as well. As for the city council, I firmly believe that Andrea Camp, Jarrod Ogden and Bill Johnston also have the best interest of Craig in mind and would serve the town well. If you are going to be in any position of power in this great Republic, you must be willing to listen to the community as a whole, and not simply use your position in government to benefit your friends at the expense of the taxpayer.
