To the editor:
It does not surprise me to hear that Mary Morris would step up to save a life. Years ago Mary and I attended an event in the Granby area stopping at a restaurant there for lunch on the way home. As we ate Mary suddenly gasped, “That child is choking and seems like he cannot breathe.” Mary jumped up and ran to assist while someone called 911. While I sat frozen in fear for the child and praying with my heart and soul that help would come, Mary did something that helped save the child. Whether it was the Heimlich maneuver or CPR I don’t know. I just remember that by the time EMTs arrived I was told that the child was okay. As the EMTs took the child and its parents to the hospital, Mary came calmly back to the table and finished her lunch. By this time the child should be an adult.
All of that was years ago, but I will never forget it.
