Superfood Tip: Chocolate’s healthy side

Craig Daily Press Staff Report

According to many health experts and websites, there is a benefit to eating chocolate. Pause to cheer!

That’s right. When consuming chocolate in small portions, it can actually help your health and not hurt it.

However, according to My Fitness Pal — a mobile app that helps people stay on track with health goals — not all chocolate is created equal.

“Chocolate is also one of the few sweets known to impart health benefits for those who eat it regularly, but that doesn’t apply to just any chocolate. It’s important to distinguish between the different types of chocolate, as all are not nutritionally equal,” states the app.

Chocolate is made from the pods of a cacao tree, and in order to make chocolate, the cacao has to be fermented. After that a “chocolate liquor” is made, states the article.

Dark chocolate has the most “chocolate liquor” making it the healthiest of all chocolates, the article states. Now, milk and white chocolate are also healthy when consumed in small portions, but not as healthy as dark chocolate.

So next time you grab a chocolate bar, indulge in pleasure, not guilt.
