Soroco senior Ryan Jeep runs the ball in October against West Grand. Jeep proved to be versatile all around, firmly establishing himself as Soroco’s male athlete of the year.

Ryan Jeep didn’t need to prove anything in his senior year.

He was already a critical part of the core of the basketball and football teams in Soroco and the baseball team in Steamboat, and none of that changed in his last go-around with high school sports.

What wasn’t expected, however, was how versatile Jeep would prove to be. At 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds at a small Class 2A school such as Soroco, his role often was decided. Tight end in football. Center in basketball. Power hitter and pitcher in baseball.

In his senior season, however, Jeep expanded upon what he’d done before and firmly established himself as the Soroco male athlete of the year.

It started in football, when fellow senior Matt Regan was confined to the sideline with a season-ending injury. Jeep subbed in, becoming undoubtedly the tallest, largest quarterback in the Western Slope League.

The result was Jeep figuring into the top three on the team in all three offensive categories — passing, rushing and receiving.

In the winter, he was the same tent-pole in the paint he’s been throughout his career. He averaged a team- and career-best 18.4 points per game scoring, grabbed an average of 9.1 rebounds per game and had 28 blocks. He finished with 968 points for his career.

In the spring, he showed off that versatility again, this time by running track in Oak Creek and playing baseball in Steamboat Springs.

He was one of the team’s biggest bats and best pitchers in baseball, and he immediately stood out in track, qualifying for the state track meet in high jump.

Already one of the top Rams in recent memory, Jeep didn’t need to prove anything in his senior season.
