John Ponikvar: Who are CAVE people?

To the editor:

Recently, during and prior to the Craig Fire Board election, a fire board member had an electronic sign at his business reading, “Don’t vote for Timberg, he represents the Cave people of Craig. Citizens against virtually everything.” The sign caused me to wonder who those C.A.V.E. people might be?

If you are opposed to those that would stop coal, gas and oil development, you must be a Craig C.A.V.E. person!

If you are against high utility prices, you must be a Craig C.A.V.E. person!

If you are against those that would deny you your Second Amendment rights, you must be a C.A.V.E. person!

If you are against not having high-performing schools, you might be a Moffat County C.A.V.E. person!

If you are against not having a well-run and prepared fire department, you might be a C.A.V.E. person!

If you are against not having transparent and efficiently run city and county governments, you might be a Craig C.A.V.E. person!

If you are against not having well-maintained and plowed streets, you might be a C.A.V.E. person.

If you are against not expecting a superior local hospital, you might be a C.A.V.E. person!

If you are opposed to not having great law enforcement, you might be a C.A.V.E. person!

Who is this person representing? The Fire Board? Himself? I know that he does not represent the fire department and the good work that they do.

Unfortunately, other fire board members have used the same term — C.A.V.E. — throughout the years to refer to taxpaying citizens who don’t always agree with them.

If you are opposed to the term C.A.V.E. person, you must be one!

If you are opposed to being opposed to negativity in the community, are you a Craig C.A.V.E. person? Take a hard look at yourself, are you one of them? Just who are they? Where did they come from?
