Kris Brannan, of Maybell, wants to reverse the ban on retail marijuana in Moffat County. To fuel the effort, she’s hosting a cannabis forum from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Moffat County Fairgrounds Pavilion in Craig.
Her ambition is strong, as she mailed over-sized postcards to every address in the county with an 81625 zip code. The effort cost her nearly $2,000, she said.
Brannan owns a 300-acre farm in Maybell where she harvests hay. She would rather cultivate marijuana for retail profit because it’s more profitable, Brannan said. Yet the county has a year-long moratorium on grow-ops and retail marijuana sales.
“I just don’t think that (Moffat County) understands the magnitude of money the cannabis industry can bring to Moffat County,” Brannan said.
Moffat County Commissioners have said in the past that the moratorium is in place because that’s what the voters want.
Brannan placed several petitions throughout the county and said that she has more than 400 signatures. A petition will be on hand at the forum Friday night.
