Since Moffat County Assessor Robert Razzano is forgoing a second term, Chuck Cobb, broker assistant for Cornerstone Realty, is vying for the open seat.
Cobb was the director of golf operations on the Yampa Valley Golf Course for about 30 years, and he said that gave him experience with business, county relations and community service. Also, his 10 year service on the school board gives him background in being an elected official, he said.
His more recent experience in real estate gives him the property-valuing know-how to do the job, he added.
“In this case I’m extremely well-rounded and have a great passion for our community. I had a great rapport with people in the county,” Cobb said.
Cobb’s objective as assessor would be to continue the same level of work the assessor’s office has been doing, he said.
The office “is only as good as the people we have up there,” Cobb said. He wants to “continue to do the good work they’re already doing.”
It’s an important position because of how much county revenue is tied up in the job, he noted.
“Energy-related taxation is about 80 percent of the revenue that comes into the county,” Cobb said. “It’s a very important part of the process.”
Razzano said he supports Cobb’s candidacy.
“A smooth transition is what is best for the taxpayers and citizens. They are the people that I work for, and the most important thing is to do what is best for them,” he said in a statement. “I think with (Cobb’s) real estate background, and his knowledge of the people and the area will also be helpful in making a smooth transition. I will be happy to help him in whatever he needs.”
Razzano expressed gratitude to the citizens of Moffat County in his statement.
“I have been so appreciative of your support that I always tried to show a small portion of the gratitude that I have for everyone by being at my job every day, working hard and by providing excellent customer service,” he said in the statement.
Cobb will be running uncontested. He announced his candidacy at the Lincoln Day Dinner on Feb. 8.
