Craig Walmart and Supercenter hosted a small grand re-opening at 8 a.m. Friday, showcasing a new design in the store.
The remodel started May 4 in an effort to make the store more shopper-friendly. The company hired nearly 30 temporary associates to assist with the remodel.
Yampa Valley Fast Facts outlines economic activity
Yampa Valley Data Partners released its most recent Fast Facts, logging economic activity in Moffat and Routt counties.
Employment rates in the Yampa Valley remained relatively low in April, according to the report. In Moffat County, the employment rate was 6.2 percent, and Routt’s was 4.5 percent, compared with the statewide rate of 6 percent.
Moffat County retail sales dipped 9 percent in February compared to the same month last year, while Routt’s retail sales barely increased by 0.7 percent. Retail sales year to date in Moffat are down 9 percent and are up 4 percent in Routt.
Home prices and listings
The number of homes for sale after Christmas Day rose 20 percent in Moffat County and 11 percent in Routt County. The median listing price for homes was $179,500 in Moffat and $450,000 in Routt.
Coal production year to date through February in Moffat County jumped 6 percent, yet it was down 29 percent in Routt compared to the same time last year. “Oil and gas production got off to a slow start in both counties,” the report stated.
In April, the snow-water equivalent was strong at 182 percent of average on Rabbit Ears Pass and 120 percent of average on Buffalo Pass, according to the report. “The Yampa River streamflow was running at 125 percent of average,” the report stated.
