Regular aerobic exercise makes your heart stronger and more effective depending on the intensity of the activity. Monitoring your heart rate is a great way to make yourself accountable. This can be done by purchasing a nice heart rate monitor that can be worn on your wrist like a watch and receives data from a band around your midsection, or you can manually take your heart rate throughout your workout. A normal resting heart rate can vary between 60 and 90 beats per minute; a maximum heart rate also may vary as can the speed at which the heart rate returns to a resting rate after exercise. The Journal of American College of Cardiology recommends the formula (208 – 0.7 X age) to figure maximum heart rate.
