Superfood Tip: Ergogenic Aids

Ergogenic Aids are foods or supplements that help improve our cardiovascular/muscular performance. Some supplements have big claims but may be dangerous because of harmful additives (remember: no agency such as the FDA regulates supplements).

There are dietary sources that are backed with enough research to be considered an ergogenic aid. High nitrate content vegetables such as beets/beet root, arugula, rhubarb, butter head lettuce, celery and spinach have shown to decrease our body’s oxygen usage during exercise. This results in greater oxygen delivery to our muscles and increasing our capacity for higher intensity workouts.

If you are looking to feel better during your workout routine consider adding a serving of these vegetables daily.
