In its 28th year, the Ladies Silver Bullet Classic may have had a smaller turnout than in previous years, but organizer Susan Utzinger said those who came made the weekend event one to remember.

“It was an awesome two days,” she said.

The annual tournament hosted by Yampa Valley Ladies Golf Association saw 65 women hailing from around town, Colorado or from even farther away converge on Yampa Valley Golf Course for 36 holes, two days and a lot of fun.

Frequent winner Kim Eaton once again captured the top slot with a 72 and a 69, with her 141 total followed closely in the first flight by Stacey Arnold with 144.

First-time competitor Heather Cannon found success with a net score of 137, with her handicap a huge boon in what she said likely will be the catalyst for more such competitions.

“Heather did such a great job,” Utzinger said about her friend. “Out of eight ladies in our golf club, five of them got ranked this weekend.”

In the second flight herself, Utzinger’s total of 183 barely kept her from taking home some prize money.

“I was just two strokes away,” she said.

The score was hardly on her mind at all, exchanging stories and catching up with old friends.

“Everyone from out of town was just complimentary of the course, and everyone had a great time,” she said. "We had just incredible sponsorship from so many businesses."

Between rounds, the women took over the clubhouse Saturday night for a night of food, music and dancing.

Both Utzinger and Jamie Eckroth credited Tin Cup Grill’s Gary Baysinger and KRAI’s Frank Hanel for providing them with a raucous occasion.

“There was never a dull moment,” Eckroth said.
