Steamboat Springs Unusual winds from the northeast ushered in smoke to the Yampa Valley on Monday evening.
Routt County Emergency Management Director Bob Struble said he suspected the smoke came from the Owen Fire in Medicine Bow National Forest southwest of Laramie, Wyoming.
It is suspected the fire started at about noon Monday and has burned 300-plus acres. Evacuations were ordered for the nearby Lake Owen Campground.
Routt County residents should not be surprised if they see smoke in the coming days.
Struble was in the Hayden area Tuesday and said he could see haze and smoke that he suspected were coming from fires to the west near Vernal, Utah.
