To the editor:
It was reported recently that John Rossfeld has been hired as the interim CEO of The Memorial Hospital at Craig. As an employee of the hospital where he served as interim CEO for 18 months (Newman Regional Health in Emporia, Kan.), I can say without a doubt that you are in good hands.
Being an interim is not a job for faint of heart. If you are like the employees here at Newman Regional Health, you will be asking him to stay. John came on board in June 2012 and has done a remarkable job. In a short seven months after he started, we opened a brand new cardiology physician office and a state-of-the-art cardiovascular catheterization lab, something our community desperately needed to avoid 50- to 100-mile emergency transfers. The service line has been very successful. In fact, we just signed on a second cardiologist who will begin in March.
His other accomplishments include working with our physician recruiter to sign on four family practice physicians, a psychiatrist, two cardiologists and an orthopedic surgeon. We installed a new MRI and are awaiting critical access hospital designation. John is a great listener, family man and leader.
I encourage The Memorial Hospital staff, the board of directors and the Craig community to allow John the opportunity to demonstrate his leadership skills. If so, you will find yourselves better positioned for your new CEO when he or she arrives.
