Craig affected by disruption in Verizon service Sunday, Monday

Winds a factor in technical problems

Recent service issues for Verizon Wireless impacted Craig on Sunday and Monday when equipment from the telecommunications provider malfunctioned.

Meagan Dorsch, public relations consultant for the mountain region, said maintenance crews were unable to seek out the “disruption in service” right away.

"Because of snow, weather and terrain, crews could not head out until Monday morning," she said. "The site had to be accessed by snowcat."

Dorsch said high winds Sunday evening were the cause of the troubles, damaging a microwave dish and affecting cellular towers.

Service was restored to Verizon users about 4 p.m. Monday.

If anyone from Verizon sees this, please look into providing service for downtown. I would not have ported my number away if there was some way of covering past the sandrocks. While Cedar Mountain does geographically cover a very broad area it also fails to cover half of the town itself.

Thanks CDP for looking into this. I also saw a map and heard that some fiber optic cable had been cut in Florida, which for some odd reason according to the coverage of outage shown on the map, affected us. Basically I don't think Verizon has a clue what is going on. I hope some credit on all of our accounts is in order. As far as the downtown thing, why are they not putting boosters or something on the Sandrocks so that anything in the shadow of them can get coverage? If a different, decent plan were available in this area that has the coverage and some of the amenities of Verizon, I would switch tomorrow. Unfortunately there are none and we are slaves to them, just like they like it.
