Veteran’s Hotline: ID cards still available

Fellow veterans, the new ID cards are still being issued.

I received mine and they transfer your old picture onto the new card, so no photograph is needed.

As I stated in my last article, your Social Security number is not on the new card. This is an added plus because someone could scan your old card with their cellphone and that would leave you open to identity theft.

I received more information on travel pay.

If VAMC sends you to the Denver or Salt Lake hospital, and you have less than 30 percent service connected disability, you are not eligible for travel pay. And, as most of you know, 30 percent or more disability, you are eligible for travel pay no matter what you go for. If you are 10 percent or 20 percent, you are eligible for travel pay only if you go for a service that is related to your service-connected disability.

Remember, if you know of any returning veterans, please have them contact me to get them enrolled in the health care system. Also, I recently read that postcards are being sent to returning veterans urging them to contact their Veterans Service Officers for any services they may require.
