Yampa Valley Golf Course has released its tournament schedule for this summer, with a later start than recent years but a busy middle and end to the season.
The Dirt Hog Scramble, a four-player team tournament, will kick off the season as it has in the past. The scramble will take place May 10 instead of the final weekend in April as in previous years. The final day in May is the next tournament of the spring, a men’s doubles competition.
Three weeks later, The Memorial Hospital hosts its annual tournament, scheduled for June 20. The week after that is the largest of the year, the Cottonwood Classic. The Classic, which attracts more golfers from outside the Yampa Valley than any other at YVGC, will be June 27 through 29.
The tournament activity will pick up in July, with four tournaments scheduled in the heart of the summer.
The Firecracker, which celebrates Independence Day, will be July 5, followed by the biggest Ladies’ tournament of the year, the Silver Bullet. The Silver Bullet is a 36-hole tournament set for July 12 and 13.
A couple company competitions will follow in July. ColoWyo Mine employees will play July 19, and Tri State Generation and Transmission is the following weekend, July 26.
Just one tournament is set for August so far, the Club Championship. Members at YVGC will have a chance to unseat defending champion Dan Brown on Aug. 16 and 17.
In September, the action will pick up again, with some of the fun fall tournaments that typically close out the year. No Down Couples will be played Sept. 6 and 7, with the Yahoo Golf tournament Sept. 13.
The Fore Fat Core Pike Memorial Tournament will be Sept. 20. The Yampa Cup, an annual contest between members of YVGC and the Steamboat Golf Club, is scheduled to start in Steamboat the same day, with the second day of action in Craig on Sept. 21.
All tournaments are subject to change, and others are likely to be introduced. Bear River Young Life hosts an event each year but has not yet finalized a date.
