Moffat County High School volleyball loses to Grand Valley

— The Moffat County varsity volleyball team lost to Grand Valley in only three sets in a home game.

The Cardinals won, 25-18, 25-21, 25-16, on Saturday. The Bulldogs kept up at the beginning of the sets, but Grand Valley was able to pull ahead rapidly once it got a solid lead.

The Bulldogs had several close misses, and MCHS coach Starla Jensen said the team just needed to work on tighter communication.

Senior Jazmine Swindler agreed and said the lack of communication left the Bulldogs unprepared.

“We just had a whole bunch of little errors” Saturday, she said. “We just need to start talking.”

Although disappointed, Swindler said she was proud of the defense. Kyra Chenoweth, a junior from Grand Valley, was a good hitter, she said, but the Bulldogs could handle her.

“Our defense was good enough,” Swindler said.

Jensen said she will get her girls working on the details and talking.

“I think they’re going to improve on communication,” she said. “As long as they build on each practice and each game, I’m confident it will come.”

Jensen said that she is sure their strength was shown on defense and that the team will do great in coming games.

“Our defense is improving. It’s getting better,” she said.

Although she wished the Bulldogs had won the game, Jensen said she was proud of the team’s advancements.

“My girls have got so much heart,” she said.
