I have a calendar that has a conversion chart as part of the back cover. This was something I thought was pretty interesting and handy to have. I have seen these types of charts in recipe books before but this one was a little more precise than those. I remember studying intensely to learn how many ounces were in a cup, how many cups in a pint and so on. I was used to measuring by pinches, handfuls, tinsy bits of this, a little bit of that and on and on.
Not only did this chart have those measures, it also had metric weight conversion and here we go again, ounces to grams, pounds, kilograms, grams this and grams that, the only grams I knew were my Grammy’s that I was related to. I kept on reading and saw there were linear measures, inches, feet, yards and rods? Huh, like curtain rods? No, they become furloughs, which I thought had something to do with horse racing but evidently become a mile after nine of them, and then there is the nautical mile. By that time, I decided that I would stick to my good old pinches of this and bits of that.
My favorite way to measure is to look back at my memories, life experiences and lessons learned and see what I have achieved and what I need to do to get where I want to be, the dreams that are yet to become realities. There is a saying “Don’t measures your life by the breaths you take but by the things that take your breath away.” Go onward and live your life to the fullest and don’t worry about the past. It is over, tomorrow is yet to come and each day is a present, so use it well.
Birthday wishes to Mary Jane Lindley, Jeff Southard and Jesse Calderon.
