— The Craig/Moffat Economic Development Partnership and The Marianna Raftopoulos Business Incubator One Stop Business Center are accepting applications for a never-before-offered business development class scheduled for next month in Craig.

The Inventor’s Boot Camp, slated for 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 7 at the Colorado Northwestern Community College Academic Campus, will provide novice and seasoned inventors information about how to avoid common mistakes that often lead to financial failure.

The class, which costs $55, will provide education about the inventing process, the costs associated with designing a new product or idea, and the steps required to move a new product to market.

“Designing products is a unique business venture,” interim EDP director Audrey Danner said. “The Inventor’s Boot Camp will prove to be an excellent resource taught by people in the invention business.”

On the list of presenters are Rita Crompton, of FLeCusa International, Doug Collins, of Avid Design, and Ray Burrasca, of Colorado Crowdfunding.

Crowdfunding is a relatively new financing option in which people solicit online funds from potential investors for a variety of efforts, from disaster relief and civic projects to startup companies and scientific research. An amendment legalizing crowdfunding was sponsored by U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, of Colorado, and added to the Congressional Jobs Act passed in 2012, Danner said. The 2012 Jobs Act still awaits implementation.

“This is different from any other class the EDP has offered in the past,” Danner said. “We’re excited to offer a different type of business class to the Craig community.”
