Health events upcoming in Craig
Craig The 32nd annual Health Fair is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 20 at The Memorial Hospital in Craig.
In the past, the event was held by the Craig Lions Club in conjunction with the 9News Health Fair, but it is now sponsored by the Craig Lions Club and The Memorial Hospital. Craig Lions Club and Cedar Mountain Lions will act as ambassadors.
There will be educational booths about colon health, breast health, sleep apnea, Life Line and diabetes, as well as talks by Dr. Womble and Dr. Hamilton.
The Lions Senior Blood Draw for seniors 65 and older is from 7 to 11 a.m. April 18 at Sunset Meadows II, 595 Ledford.
Early enrollment for seniors is from 9 to 11 a.m. April 13 at Sunset Meadows II. Seniors also can apply the morning of the blood draw. Pre-registration is not a requirement.
Blood draws are offered at a reduced price, usually about half the cost of a doctor’s visit. The blood draws will check white blood cell count and cholesterol level. Blood pressure will be taken as well.
Four of the Health Fair services have a charge: basic blood chemistry screening is $30, a blood count is $15, a prostrate screening is $25, and a colon-rectal kit is available for $5.
The blood screening is done through Quest Diagnostic laboratory services and includes a 31-item blood component analysis that screens for cholesterol, triglycerides, high density lipoprotein HDL, low-density lipoprotein LDL, glucose, thyroid, kidney and liver function, and more. The blood count includes a white blood count, hemoglobin concentrate, hematrocrit value and a platelet count.
Those having their blood drawn should fast 12 hours before the test. Participants can drink water and are encouraged to do so. Diabetics should not fast and should take regular medicines.
