To the editor:
My name is Gary Vavra, and I live in Castle Rock. I had the misfortune of having my car break down on my way to Murray City, Utah, to visit my daughter, deliver her dresser to her and pick up my wife. I just wanted you and your town to know how an individual in your community represented you and your fellow community members.
As I approached the town of Craig, which I have passed through several times on trips before, my battery light came on. I pulled into the first establishment, TDS Tire on my right to see what the problem was. After opening my hood, I saw that there was a water leak as well as my fan belt had come off. That was the reason for the battery light. I was told at TDS that they did not work on mechanical items but that there was a garage just down the street over the bridge on Victory Way.
I proceeded to put some water in my cooling system and quickly drove down the street to Chapman’s Automotive. Upon arriving there, I was greeted by JB Chapman. I explained my problem, and he told me that he had one of his technicians on vacation and was not in the position to assist me because of prior commitments to his customers. He did, however, try to call some other garages in town to see if they could help.
Every garage he called had workloads to severe that day or like him had a worker on vacation and one even took off because he became a father that same day. With that said, JB rolled up his sleeves and said he would take a look at it for me. As things turned out, it was not a quick fix — it turned out to be a major job. It seems the radiator tank blew out and would need to be replaced. He located a radiator (out of state), helped me find a local motel for the night and without gouging a complete stranger worked up an estimate within reason to repair my car.
JB took the time to talk to me and make me feel like part of your community. He is a valuable community member and an outstanding human being. Your community is blessed to have JB as a community member and I urge everyone in town to use his services at Chapman’s Automotive. Thank you JB, and God Bless Craig.
