The Craig Billiards Congress of America pool league, which normally has seasons in the fall and spring, will host an 8-ball tournament in August.

The tournament bracket is limited to 32 players and costs $10 to enter. It will take place beginning at 1 p.m. Aug. 11 at The Popular Bar, 24 W. Victory Way. All players must be at least 21 years old.

In addition to the tournament, the Craig BCA is hoping to attract more members to its 8-ball league, which begins in September. There will be a players meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday to discuss information about the upcoming season.

For more information about the tournament or the 8-ball season, call 970-629-0436 or e-mail the league at craig.bca@live.com.

Bulldogs boys golf set to hold preseason meeting

With high school boys golf starting practice a week before all other fall sports because of weather concerns in the later part of the fall, Moffat County High School is hoping to get a jumpstart on the season.

The team will hold a preseason meeting for anyone interested in playing golf at 7 p.m. Monday at the high school to discuss important information and hand out forms.

Practice begins Monday and in order to participate, all athletes must have completed their physicals and have all parental consent forms signed and turned in.

As a result of the early start to the season, it is common for golfers to miss the first couple days of practice because they do not have the proper paperwork, said co-curricular athletic director Rick Schmitz.

Those forms and other information will be handed out at the preseason meeting.

Water aerobics classes at pool for the summer

Residents looking to get a unique kind of exercise can attend water aerobics in either shallow or deep water this summer.

Water aerobics offer a low-impact form of exercise, making it easier on bones and joints while still offering resistance to improve fitness and flexibility.

The classes run through Aug. 15 and will be at the Craig Swimming Complex, 605 Washington St. Shallow water classes will be Mondays and Wednesdays during the summer from noon to 1 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m. Deep water will be Tuesdays and Thursdays at the same times.

Those interested can sign up for an entire session for $45, both sessions for $80 or choose to attend individual classes, which will cost $4 each. For more information, call Craig Parks and Recreation at 970-826-2029.

MCHS physicals this week at TMH Clinic

Athletes who still need to get a physical in order to play sports in the coming school year can do so for cheap at The Memorial Hospital Clinic coming up.

TMH Clinic, 785 Russell St., will offer physicals from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday for $15. All athletes must have a physical completed before they are allowed to practice. The physicals are available for high school and middle school students.

High school boys golf practice begins Monday, and the rest of high school fall sports begin Aug. 12.
