Moffat Monthly: What are the biggest differences between Craig and Stillwater, Okla.?

Kaycee Stagner: The weather — that was the first thing I noticed. It’s way bigger. The stadium is close to the size of Mile High (Denver Broncos’ stadium) and it’s just a college.

M2: Are there people back home in Craig you stay in contact with?

KS: A couple friends. I think most of it is I come home and work every summer, so all the clients and people I work with at the (Craig Veterinary) Hospital is who I see the most of. I’ve been doing that the past four or five years.

M2: What do you like most about school?

KS: I’m getting to learn about animals. I love working on animals. And getting to finally do hands-on things with animals whereas undergrad it was just studying.

M2: Are you involved in any clubs or extracurricular activities?

KS: I don’t have a whole lot of time, but I am in a couple clubs. Bovine Practitioners Club. I do extra stuff with cattle and sheep and goats. Other than that it’s a lot of studying. I’m going on a mission trip with my Christian Veterinary Club to Nicaragua this summer. We’re going to work with villagers and help with their animals and also do Christian mission work. That will be at the end of May.

M2: Why are those things important to you?

KS: I’ve always been raised with animals. From before I can remember my dad had me on a horse. We’ve raised cows before, we’ve had bucking bulls before. We’ve always had horses, we’ve always had dogs. I did 4-H and FFA when I was a kid. It’s just what I’m used to, and agriculture was my draw in high school.

M2: Any ideas on your plans for the future?

KS: I’ve got three more years left (in school). In my wildest dreams, I want to come back, at least close to Craig. My family’s there, so that’s important to me, but I like working in a rural area more than staying in a big city. I love Colorado. I can’t wait to get back to Colorado.
