Veteran’s Hotline: New travel pay rules
Starting March 1, travel pay will be paid to your bank account on a direct deposit basis. The money will go into the same account as your compensation or pension pay. The procedure is as follows:
The veteran completes the appointment, then goes to the travel clerk who processes the claim and confirms eligibility. The paperwork is then printed in the cashier cage. The cashier then inputs the information for the EFT (electronic fund transfer).
The process is different if the veteran goes in after hours or on an emergency basis. The hospital staff will assist the veteran if this is the case.
If you have an off-site appointment (St. Mary’s Hospital, Grey Eye Care, etc.) you need to have the paperwork completed before the appointment.
If you are not sure of the hospital having your account information, come to my office a pick up an SF 3881, fill it out and turn in to travel clerk when you get to the hospital in Grand Junction. This will eliminate any delay in getting travel money deposited in your bank account.
The Grand Junction Medical Center (VAMC) has received an anonymous donation of $375,000 in trust for veterans seen at the facility.
Grand Junction is one of a handful of medical centers across the nation to receive similar donations.
“Based on our conversations with the Grant Foundation sending us the award, staff dedication, integrity and honesty were important factors in the decision to give us this money,” said Terry Atienza, the medical center’s director.
The medical center is honored by the generous action, Atienza said, and will ensure every dollar is spent within the donor’s conditions.
The donor routed the money through the Chicago Community Foundation’s Northern Trust Charitable Giving Program to ensure anonymity.
