Rig Count for Feb. 2

A count on oil and natural gas rigs, as of Friday, operating in Colorado, Wyoming and the U.S. overall, according to Baker Hughes, Inc., a Houston-based energy consulting company:
• Colorado has 55 rigs online — the same as Jan. 25, but 17 less than Feb. 3, 2012.
• Wyoming has 47 rigs online — one less than Jan. 25, and two less than Feb. 3, 2012.
• The U.S. has 1,764 rigs online — 11 more than Jan. 25, but 233 less than Feb. 3, 2012.
Of those rigs:
• 1,695 are working on land, 16 in inland waters, and 53 offshore.
• 1,332 are drilling for oil, 428 for natural gas.
• 183 wells are directional, 1,136 are horizontal, and 445 are vertical.
As of the close of trading Thursday:
• Crude oil closed up $1.54 from a week ago at $97.49 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
• Colorado Southeast crude oil closed up $1.50 from a week ago at $84.85 a barrel.
• Colorado Western crude oil closed up $1.50 from a week ago at $84.38 a barrel.
• Wyoming Sweet crude oil closed up $1.54 from a week ago at $85.49 a barrel.
• Natural gas closed down 11 cents from a week ago at $3.34 per 10,000 million British thermal units or MMBtu.
