Lois Stoffle: Christmas at Sandrock

To the editor:

I would like to thank the people who made Christmas at Sandrock Ridge such an enjoyable time for the residents, and consequently, their families. The Calvary Baptist Church played Santa and brought such wonderful gifts for the residents; and their children’s choir, who came and sang the traditional Christmas carols and a few of the newer songs of Christmas. The Assembly of God congregation came and performed their puppet show of “A Cowboy Christmas,” which was awesome, inspiring and absolutely one of the cutest Christmas plays ever! They are such a talented group. The various schools, whose children came to entertain the residents with their caroling and visitation, were so appreciated. The residents, one of who is my husband, enjoy seeing the children with their cute antics and their very contagious smiles. And several other churches and groups, whom I do not know the names of, sent goodies of cookies, treats and fruit for all to enjoy. And I can’t forget the staff, who besides their loving and caring attitudes for the residents, went way over the top by decorating the residents doors to their rooms. There were snowflakes, Christmas trees, wrapped packages; snowmen, the nutcracker in full regalia covering the entire door, Santa’s sleigh, a deer mount over the mantle of a fireplace complete with stockings hung up, Santa hanging by his thumbs stuck in a chimney, beautiful outdoor scenes and just so many Christmas decorations up and down the halls. Even the beautiful pictures hanging in the building were covered in gift-wrap to look like presents! It was a beautifully orchestrated Christmas wonderland complete with a huge tall-decorated tree in the lobby. And a visit by Santa himself early Christmas morning, compliments of “Christmas for Seniors” and Mr. George Kidder, had all of the residents finding gifts on their bedside tables.

To top the day off, families of the residents were invited to share a delicious dinner with their loved ones. The dining room and all of the tables were beautifully decorated and the whole staff joined the dietary department in serving and assisting the residents. What a great Christmas this was for all who were there to share in it. Thank you to everyone who had a part in this celebration. God bless you all for caring!
