When it comes to exercise, the art of inhaling and exhaling may be a little more complicated than we think. Smooth and efficient breathing is crucial for delivering the oxygen our body needs to perform its functions properly. Some studies may advise to breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth, while others might recommend breathing through the mouth only as it seems to be the route of less resistance. Bottom line is that an athlete needs to find the technique that works best for them. Runners might find a breath for every two steps works well, while weight lifters follow the rule of exhaling on the exertion. Regardless, we should learn to breathe from the diaphragm as it carries the title of the most efficient breathing muscle.
