As the Nielson family mourns the loss of Kole Nielson who died in a vehicle crash on Dec. 11, the community has been extending its support to show how much he meant to the people of Craig.
The local restaurant Vallarta’s will be hosting a fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday. During the fundraiser, the Winder family who are very close to the Nielson family, will be waiting tables and all of their tips will be going straight to the Nielson family fund. Vallarta’s also will be donating 20 percent of their total sales that night.
Other places that people can donate are at the Bank of Colorado, the Moffat County School Credit Union, www.gofundme.com and at the Rising Star next to the U.S. Post Office on Pershing Street.
Carelli’s Pizzeria also will be raising money to help the Nielson family from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday. They originally were going to do fundraising for the Moffat County High school, but once the word spread about the tragedy, they decided to quickly switched the focus of the fundraiser. They will be donating 10 percent of their sales to the Nielson family and are hoping to raise anywhere from $200 to $300.
Cammy Winder, who has been organizing the majority of the fundraising events, said that the money will be used to help with whatever the family needs. Kole was the primary contributor to his household.
Cammy said that her most memorable moment with Kole was when he was helping her tear down the stage at her gym in the mall, Zumba. There were nails scattered everywhere and he had accidentally stepped on a nail and it had gone right through his foot. He was bleeding everywhere and he had to go to the hospital to get it removed and get a tetanus shot. She and her husband offered to pay for it because he had hurt himself while helping them but he refused to let them. He said it was his fault, and he shouldn’t have been messing around.
If you would like to help the Nielson family, then make sure to stop by at Vallarta’s and get a bite to eat Monday or swing over to Carelli’s Pizzeria on Thursday and enjoy a slice of pizza. GoFundMe.com currently is accepting donations for the Nielson Family and already has raised $100.
