Cardiovascular exercise, general strengthening and stretches are all equally important in a regular fitness plan. One thing that frequently is forgotten is core strengthening. Strong core muscles are the key to correct posture and proper body mechanics during our everyday routines. Whether it is standing, sitting, continually moving at work or even working around the home, we can engage our core to protect us from injury. The core muscles around your trunk and pelvis help your lower back, hips and abdominal muscles work together to increase balance and stability. Try using abdominal muscles to pull the belly button toward the spine, engaging your core muscles while performing normal, everyday activities or during your regular fitness routine.
