The Colorado Department of Transportation will be performing road work Monday and Tuesday along certain parts of Yampa Avenue.
The 500 block of Yampa, which doubles as Colorado Highway 13, will be blocked off until about 6 p.m. Monday as CDOT workers perform milling and paving work on the street’s asphalt.
Field foreman Todd Weber said the road would be open again to traffic soon with the work going faster than expected.
“We scheduled for two days in case of rain or equipment breakdowns, but we’re moving along pretty good,” he said.
The crew also will be doing similar work from about 6 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the intersection of Yampa Avenue and Ninth Street, near Craig Middle School and Kum & Go.
Field said intersections receive a great deal of damage.
“They take the worst beating,” he said. “The big trucks that stop there and then start up again really tear it up.”
CDOT also will be working on other sections of state highways in Moffat County in the next week, near Elkhead Reservoir and another spot near Maybell, before moving on to Steamboat Springs.
The agency performed similar work on Victory Way — U.S. Highway 40 — last year and will continue with the south section of Yampa next summer.
