— The Hayden Town Council on Thursday is expected to approve the first reading of an ordinance that would ban commercial operations related to marijuana.

The ordinance would ban the retail sale, cultivation facilities and marijuana product manufacturing facilities. By approving the first reading, the town will be able to hold a public hearing Sept. 5. The town is working with a Oct. 1 deadline when municipalities in Colorado need to adopt their own rules in accordance with Amendment 64, which legalized consumption of marijuana for those 21 and older.

The Town Council will hear reports from staff members starting at 7 p.m. The regular meeting starts at 7:30 p.m.

Also during the meeting, the Town Council will do a second reading of an ordinance that will allow people to operate alternative vehicles such as all-terrain vehicles in the town. Residents will have to pay a fee to register their alternative vehicle with the town if they want to use it on town streets.
