Senior Spotlight for April 29, 2013

April brought showers — both snow and rain — Easter, flowers and some sunny days.

It also presented an opportunity for a group of volunteers from our local Walmart to go to Roundup River Ranch. The ranch is east of Avon and is a medically supported camp for kids with chronic and life-threatening illnesses — a place where they can truly feel incredible, no matter what illness they’re battling. It was a very fulfilling two days for those who helped get the camp ready to go for these special youngsters.

The ranch always is looking for all types of volunteers throughout the summer. If you are interested, check out their website for more information

May will bring its own opportunities, along with May Day. Not many people observe May Day in the traditional manner of yesteryear. There was the May pole celebration, with its long ribbons and dancing around the pole. Also, May baskets left on doorsteps of those whom you thought were special enough to leave a surprise for. I remember getting handmade baskets from local youngsters who made them as a class project and delivered them in person. It was such a treat for the children and the seniors in our buildings.

Early May birthday wishes to Larry Keller and Earl Updike, as well as get well and speedy recovery wishes to Bob Starling, Blake Smith, Linda Sandoval, Travis Day and Tony Grajeda.

Enjoy the weekends, get out if possible and do some fishing, picnicking, walking or whatever it is you like to do. Don’t forget to join us for the regular Friday potluck at noon May 3. See you there.
