The MCHS girls JV soccer team also played at Basalt on Thursday, falling 2-1. The Bulldogs got a goal from Alex Samuelson in the game.

More than a week off from practice didn’t slow the Moffat County High School girls soccer team in its return to the field Thursday.

The Bulldogs beat Basalt High School, 3-0, at Basalt in a chilly afternoon game. All three goals for the Bulldogs came in the first half.

Junior Allie Ehlers scored Moffat County’s first two goals of the game, the first coming on a penalty kick after a foul inside the box. Later in the half, Ehlers created space dribbling the ball and laced a shot into the net.

Tori Snyder had Moffat County’s final goal, finishing off a cross to make it 3-0.

The team had not been together for practice over spring break and battled unfriendly weather for outdoor practices at the beginning of this week. But it didn’t seem to affect their game much, head coach Harry Tripp said.

“They played good. Right from the get-go, as far as passing the ball and dropping it,” Tripp said. “It was textbook, (the ball was) flowing smoothly from one side to the other.”

Tripp said the break may have impacted the team’s conditioning, as the Bulldogs looked tired in the second half. But they fended off all Basalt attacks for their third straight shutout and win.

Moffat County is now 3-3 on the season, with two more games this week. They travel to Rifle on Friday for games at 4 p.m. (varsity) and 6 p.m. (JV). On Saturday, the Bulldogs host Coal Ridge at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Woodbury Sports Complex.
