Rig Count for Sept. 15, 2012

A count on oil and natural gas rigs, as of Friday, operating in Colorado, Wyoming and the U.S. overall, according to Baker Hughes, Inc., a Houston-based energy consulting company:
• Colorado has 62 rigs online — 3 more than Sept. 7, but 13 less than Sept. 16, 2011.
• Wyoming has 49 rigs online — 3 less than Sept. 7, and 2 less than Sept. 16, 2011.
• The U.S. has 1,864 rigs online — the same as Sept. 7, but 121 less than Sept. 16, 2011.
Of those rigs:
— 1,794 are working on land, 19 in inland waters, and 51 offshore.
— 1,413 are drilling for oil, 448 for natural gas.
— 207 wells are directional, 1,133 are horizontal, and 524 are vertical.
As of the close of trading Thursday:
• Crude oil closed up $2.78 from a week ago at $98.31 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
• Colorado Southeast crude oil closed up $3 from a week ago at $85.85 a barrel.
• Colorado Western crude oil closed up $3 from a week ago at $85.38 a barrel.
• Wyoming Sweet crude oil closed up $2.78 from a week ago at $85.31 a barrel.
• Natural gas closed up 26 cents from a week ago at $3.04 per 10,000 million British thermal units or MMBtu.
