Rig Count for Spt. 8, 2012

A count on oil and natural gas rigs, as of Friday, operating in Colorado, Wyoming and the U.S. overall, according to Baker Hughes, Inc., a Houston-based energy consulting company:

• Colorado has 59 rigs online — 2 less than Aug. 31, and 18 less than Sept. 9, 2011.

• Wyoming has 52 rigs online — the same as Aug. 31, and 2 more than Sept. 9, 2011.

• The U.S. has 1,864 rigs online — 30 less than Aug. 31, and 94 less than Sept. 9, 2011.

Of those rigs:

— 1,794 are working on land, 19 in inland waters, and 51 offshore.

— 1,409 are drilling for oil, 452 for natural gas.

— 214 wells are directional, 1,135 are horizontal, and 515 are vertical.

As of the close of trading Thursday:

• Crude oil closed up $1.01 from a week ago at $95.53 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

• Colorado Southeast crude oil closed up $1 from a week ago at $82.85 a barrel.

• Colorado Western crude oil closed up $3.30 from a week ago at $82.38 a barrel.

• Wyoming Sweet crude oil closed up $5.91 from a week ago at $82.53 a barrel.

• Natural gas closed up 3 cents from a week ago at $2.78 per 10,000 million British thermal units or MMBtu.
